Glasspack is Henry Birdsey (Tongue Depressor, Old Saw) and Ian McColm (Center, Heart of the Ghost). Comprised of bagpipes, computerized sound and an array of electronics, Glasspack reapproaches an historic instrument with browser windows and the full weight of the semi-conductor. Originally formed in 2022, this year sees the release of the project’s debut LP on Stoned to Death Records. Birdsey and McColm can be heard with a number of other ensembles and collaborators on releases from Dinzu Artifacts, XKatedral, Lobby Art Editions, Regional Bears, Three Lobed, No Quarter, and Ergot Records.
Simone Baron is a polyglot pianist, accordionist, improviser and composer whose work “ego-less, genre agnostic and without expectations” (JazzTimes) engages curiously and charismatically with a broad spectrum of idioms. Educated at Oberlin and Tel Aviv University and joyfully de-educated at festivals and performances across Europe and the Americas, Simone has won grants, fellowships and residencies from Chamber Music America, South Arts, Maryland State Arts Council, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Hambidge Center, Sacatar Foundation, iPark, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Strathmore Foundation, ArtOMI, UMD, Avaloch Farm, the Banff Centre, and Spectrum Toronto. In 2016 Simone founded Arco Belo, a diasporic chamber music ensemble. Simone is a Victoria Artist and plays a Poeta XB Accordion, and is a founding member of the Boulanger Initiative.
The daughter and father duo of Eva and Jesse Sheppard have been playing together for more than 15 years. Their music is rooted in a shared love for the traditions of English and American folk music. When not performing together, Eva can be heard fronting the band Henbane and Jesse plays 12 string in Elkhorn. They are joined this evening on violin by John Coursey, also of Henbane as well as the band Deadeyes.
